London to Stansted Fares

Guide prices for a standard saloon (up to 4 passengers, 2 large cases), one way from your London address to the terminal. The fare is the same day or night — no early-morning surcharge, no surge — and the £10 Express Set Down charge is already included. East London is closest to the M11, so those pickups are the cheapest.

Prices shown are for a saloon; estates, MPVs and 8-seat minivans are available for larger groups and extra luggage. WhatsApp us your postcode or call 020 8888 9988.

The Charge Most People Get Wrong

Stansted's "Express Set Down" — Explained

First, the confusion worth clearing up: "Express Set Down" is not the Stansted Express train. It's the airport's name for the paid drop-off zone right outside the terminal, where you "set down" a passenger. The two are completely unrelated — but the similar names catch people out constantly.

The charge jumped to £10 for up to 15 minutes on 19 March 2026, up from £7 — a rate that had been unchanged since 2012, so a 40% rise. Stay 15 to 30 minutes and it's £28, and re-entering within 30 minutes adds another £20. The zone is barrierless, so it's all on ANPR cameras.

With a pre-booked taxi, none of this is your problem. The £10 charge is built into your fixed fare, and your driver handles the forecourt — so there's no payment app, no midnight deadline, and no risk of the fine that catches out private drivers.

The Dawn Ryanair Run, Handled

Early Budget Flights Are Our Specialism

Stansted's timetable is built on early low-cost departures — Ryanair, easyJet and Jet2 pushing out waves of flights from 6am. The catch: the Stansted Express doesn't run before about 04:30, so for a 6am flight the train simply isn't an option, and you'd still need to get to the station first anyway.

That leaves a pre-booked taxi as the only dependable way there — and it's exactly what we're set up for. No early-morning surcharge, no surge, and your driver is allocated and confirmed the evening before, so there's no 4am app cancellation when the driver pool is thin. Just a car at your door at the right time.

Why Pre-Book for a Dawn Flight

  • The Express isn't running — no train before ~04:30, so a taxi is the only realistic option for a 6am flight.
  • No 4am cancellation — driver confirmed the night before, not scrambled for at dawn.
  • Same price, any hour — no surge and no night surcharge, ever.
  • Clear pre-dawn M11 — the road's empty at 4am, so the run is quick and predictable.
  • Book peak days ahead — weekend and holiday mornings fill fast; reserve early.
Get the Timing Right

When to Leave London for Stansted

Stansted is a motorway run up the M11, so timing hinges on one thing: the Redbridge interchange. Arrive at the terminal about 2 hours before a short-haul flight, then add the journey and a Redbridge buffer. When you book, we set the pickup time from your flight and postcode.

🕓

6:00am flight (early Ryanair)

Typical pickup from Central London around 3:30am. The M11 is completely clear at that hour — the run is quick, and no Stansted Express runs this early anyway.

🕘

9:00am flight (peak-time run)

Pickup around 6:00–6:30am from Central London. This puts you at Redbridge as it builds — we add buffer for the M11/A406 pinch point so you're never cutting it fine.

🚦

Redbridge is the variable

The M11's meeting with the A406 North Circular is the one bottleneck — heavy 7–9am and 4–7pm. From East London you often skip the worst of it; from West London we allow more.

We work out your pickup time

Give us your flight time and pickup postcode — we tell you exactly when the driver should arrive, factoring in check-in, security and the M11. No guesswork.

London to Stansted Questions

Everything You Might Ask

How much is a taxi to Stansted from Central London?
A fixed-price taxi to Stansted from Central London starts at around £75 for a standard saloon. The price is agreed when you book with no meter and no surge — the same fixed fare at 4am as at 4pm. East London, closer to the M11, can be from around £55, while South and West London are a little more.
What is the Express Set Down charge, and is it included?
Express Set Down is Stansted's paid drop-off zone directly outside the terminal. The charge is £10 for up to 15 minutes and £28 for 15 to 30 minutes — raised from £7 on 19 March 2026, having been unchanged since 2012. Re-entering within 30 minutes adds £20. It's entirely included in your fixed fare, and your driver handles it, so there's nothing for you to pay at the terminal.
Is the Express Set Down the same as the Stansted Express train?
No — this is a common mix-up. "Express Set Down" is the airport's name for the paid drop-off area beside the terminal, where you set down a passenger. The "Stansted Express" is the train to London Liverpool Street. They're unrelated, and with a pre-booked taxi neither is something you need to arrange — your driver takes you to the right drop-off and the charge is in the fare.
What happens if I don't pay the Stansted drop-off charge?
The Express Set Down zone is barrierless and uses ANPR cameras, so a private driver who doesn't pay online by midnight the following day receives a £100 Parking Charge Notice, reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days. With a pre-booked taxi this never applies to you — the charge is included in your fixed fare and the driver deals with it, so there are no portals or deadlines to worry about.
How early should I leave London for a Stansted flight?
Aim to arrive at the terminal about 2 hours before a short-haul European flight, then add your journey time and an M11 buffer. From Central London the road journey is about 50 to 90 minutes, so for a 6am Ryanair departure a typical pickup is around 3:30am — the M11 is clear then. The Stansted Express doesn't run before about 04:30, so for early flights a taxi is usually the only option.
Can I get an early-morning or pre-dawn taxi to Stansted?
Yes. There's no early-morning surcharge and no surge, and your driver is allocated and confirmed the night before — so there's no risk of an app cancelling at 4am. Stansted is a budget-airline hub with many very early departures, and because the Stansted Express doesn't run in the small hours, a pre-booked taxi is the reliable choice for a dawn flight.
Do you pick up from my home or hotel?
Yes. We collect from any London home, hotel, office or address, door to door, at any hour. For hotel pickups the driver arrives at your booked time and waits up to 15 minutes free of charge while you check out, then takes you straight to the Stansted terminal via the M11.
