THE JOURNEY

The road from Dartford to Gatwick

This is the most straightforward airport run we do. From Dartford town centre it is Princes Road to the A2, then the M25 at Junction 2 heading anti-clockwise. The motorway takes you past Swanley at Junction 3, over the North Downs past Sevenoaks at Junction 5, then along the Surrey border to Junction 7, where the M23 branches south. Gatwick is Junction 9 of the M23, with North and South Terminal signed well before the airport.

Distance is around 35 miles. With a clear road it is 45 minutes; a typical daytime run is nearer an hour. No toll and no Dartford Crossing, which is one reason the fare is lower than Stansted or Luton.

North or South?

  • South Terminal is the first you reach from the M23. British Airways, Wizz Air, TUI and most long-haul carriers use it.
  • North Terminal is a few minutes further round. easyJet's main operation, Norwegian and Emirates are here.

Airlines move between terminals more often than you would think, so give us the flight number and we confirm the terminal the day before. The driver drops you on the departures forecourt and settles the £7 charge.

GET THE TIMING RIGHT

Leaving Dartford for a Gatwick flight

Gatwick is famous for early departures, and a lot of our bookings on this route are pickups between 02:30 and 05:00. The M25 is at its emptiest then and the run rarely takes more than 50 minutes.

06:00–08:00 departures

Book a pickup in Dartford two and a half to three hours before the flight. For a 06:30 easyJet you would leave around 03:45.

Daytime departures

Allow 65–70 minutes on the road plus two hours at the terminal. The M25 between Junctions 5 and 7 slows mid-morning around Clacket Lane.

Evening departures

Between 16:00 and 18:30 the anti-clockwise M25 is at its heaviest. Leave earlier or budget 80 minutes.

Friday afternoons and the start of school holidays are the times to be cautious. Getaway traffic on the M23 can back up from the airport roundabout, and an incident at Godstone is the classic cause of a slow trip. We watch live traffic before every pickup and text you if we think you should leave earlier.

PRE-BOOKED VS APP VS TRAIN

Why pre-book rather than tap an app or take the train

By rail, Dartford to Gatwick means Southeastern to London Bridge, then Thameslink or Southern south to the airport. It works in daylight for a solo traveller. It does not work at 04:00, and once two adults have bought tickets it is not much cheaper than a fixed-fare car that collects them from the front door in Joydens Wood or Greenhithe.

App cars in Dartford are thin on the ground before dawn. Prices surge and cancellations are common when a driver sees a 35-mile job in the wrong direction. With us the price is written down the day before and cannot rise, a named driver is allocated in advance, and you get 15 minutes free waiting at home in case the passports are in the other bag.

  • Fixed fare including the Gatwick drop-off charge
  • Saloon, estate, MPV or 8-seat minibus, or executive Mercedes on request
  • Free child seats and boosters
  • Card, cash or invoice, no card surcharge
  • Licensed private hire operator, DBS-checked drivers

For families the minibus often works out cheaper per head than four train fares.

LANDING AT GATWICK

Gatwick to Dartford: your pickup on arrival

Give us the inbound flight number when you book and we do the rest. We track the aircraft, so if your flight from Malaga is 40 minutes late the driver simply leaves Dartford 40 minutes later. If it lands early, the driver is already nearby.

You have 45 minutes free waiting from the moment the flight lands. Bags at both terminals are normally out within 30 minutes, so most people walk straight to the car. If it takes longer, message the driver and we hold on for a modest additional charge rather than send the car away.

Meeting the driver. The default is a pickup from the short-stay car park at your terminal; the driver texts the level and bay. If you would rather be met inside, book meet and greet on request for about £10: the driver waits by the arrivals exit with a name board and takes the trolley.

The return run to DA1 goes back up the M23 and clockwise round the M25 to Junction 2. Overnight arrivals usually make it home in 45 minutes.

Dartford to Gatwick taxi — questions

How much is a taxi from Dartford to Gatwick?

From £75 one way for a standard saloon, including the £7 drop-off charge. Bexleyheath and Sidcup are from £65, Gravesend and Longfield from £80. A 6-seat MPV is roughly 25% more and an 8-seater roughly 50% more. Send your postcode for an exact price.

How long is the drive from Dartford to Gatwick?

Around 45 minutes at night and 60–70 minutes in the day, via the M25 and M23. Friday afternoons and school-holiday getaways can push it towards 80 minutes, and we will tell you if we think you need to leave earlier.

Which Gatwick terminal do I need?

It depends on the airline, and some airlines use both. Give us the flight number and we check the terminal the day before. The driver drops you on the correct departures forecourt rather than leaving you to find the shuttle.

What time should I leave Dartford for a 06:00 Gatwick flight?

Around 03:15 to 03:30. That allows 45–50 minutes on an empty M25 and gets you to the terminal roughly two hours before departure. We run through the night at the same fare, so there is no surcharge for the early start.

Do you charge extra for the Gatwick drop-off?

No. Gatwick's £7 forecourt charge is included in your fixed fare, and there are no tolls on the M25/M23 route. The price we confirm is the price you pay.

Will you wait if my flight into Gatwick is delayed?

Yes. We track the flight and move the driver's pickup time to match, whether you land early or late. You then get 45 minutes free waiting from touchdown, with meet and greet in the arrivals hall available on request.

Can I book a taxi from Gatwick to Dartford for a late-night arrival?

Yes, we operate 24/7, 365 days a year. Late arrivals are routine on this route and the fare stays the same. Book ahead with your flight number and the driver will be in the short-stay car park when you walk out.

Do you take groups or families to Gatwick?

We do. Estates, 6-seat MPVs and 8-seat minibuses are available, and child seats are free on request. For larger parties the minibus usually beats the train per person and keeps everyone together.
