Getting out of Chislehurst: what actually matters

Chislehurst has a problem that does not show up on a map: the station is not in Chislehurst. It sits a mile north, down Summer Hill towards Elmstead, on the Grove Park line to Charing Cross and Cannon Street. Walking that with a case is a genuine hill, and it is why a pre-booked car from the High Street end is worth more here than in most BR postcodes.

For airports the A20 is the road that decides everything. It runs along the eastern edge of BR7 and puts the M25 at junction 3 within a few minutes, which is why Gatwick at 27 miles and Stansted at 43.9 miles are both more predictable from Chislehurst than from towns further inside London. Heathrow at 30.4 miles goes the other way, round the bottom of the M25 or across on the South Circular.

London City is 8.3 miles and the cheapest airport run in this postcode at £90 in a saloon. Chislehurst Caves, the Common, Scadbury Park and the golf club at Camden Place all generate event and visitor work, and all of them share one practical problem — no obvious address to give a driver. Road names work better than venue names here.
