Early-morning airport runs from Welling – how we make them work
Bargain flights tend to depart before 7am, which from Welling means being collected somewhere between 3:30 and 4:30. That is exactly where pre-booked private hire and an app part company. You reserve the night before, a particular driver is assigned, and a text arrives with their name, vehicle and number plate. That driver builds their morning around your job. Should the car not be outside when you asked for it, you phone us and a person picks up.
Gatwick – from £68
Danson interchange onto the A2, M25 at J2, clockwise to J7, then the M23. Around 45 minutes at 4am. The £7 drop-off is in the price.
Heathrow – from £85
In the small hours it is the A2, Blackwall Tunnel, A12 and M4 – generally under an hour before 5am. Daytime it is the M25 anticlockwise round to J15. The £6 drop-off is in the price.
London City – from £32
A2 onto the A102, through Blackwall, then the A13 to Silvertown. Twenty minutes when the roads are empty. Nothing to pay at the airport.
Stansted – from £82
A2 to the Crossing tunnels, up the M25 to J27, M11 to J8. Both the Dart Charge and the £7 drop-off are in the price.
If you are travelling with little ones or more than four cases, book the pickup ten minutes earlier than you think you need – the 15 minutes' free waiting at home absorbs a slow start, but an unhurried exit is better all round. Our early-morning taxis page explains how we manage the quiet hours.
Welling Corner, the High Street and the station
Welling's centre is the crossroads at Welling Corner where Bellegrove Road, Upper Wickham Lane and the High Street meet, with the station a short walk down Station Approach. Parking restrictions along the High Street mean we usually collect from the side roads – tell us the shop or the pub and we will name a spot.
Welling station is on the Bexleyheath line, with Southeastern trains to London Charing Cross, Cannon Street and Victoria in around 30 to 35 minutes. There is no rank. For late trains we ask you to book before you leave town: the driver waits on Station Approach and we track the train. Falconwood station, on the same line, is from £6 from Welling Corner and closer for the Falconwood and Rochester Way estates.
Local runs we do every day

- Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup – from £12 for appointments, visiting and discharge.
- Bexleyheath Broadway and cinema – from £8.
- Eltham High Street and Eltham Palace – from £10.
- East Wickham and the Wickham Street shops – from £5.
- Woolwich Elizabeth line – from £12, an alternative route into Canary Wharf and the West End.
Queen Mary's, Queen Elizabeth and Darent Valley from Welling
Welling sits between three hospitals. Queen Mary's in Sidcup (from £12) handles a lot of outpatient clinics and the urgent treatment centre; Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich (from £12) is the nearest A&E; Darent Valley in Dartford (from £18) is where many DA16 patients are referred. We do a steady trade in appointment runs, dialysis regulars and discharge pickups from all three.
For a discharge, the ward usually cannot give a precise time until the paperwork is done. Book a provisional slot and ring us when the pharmacy bag arrives – a car is usually with you in 15 to 25 minutes. We can wait at the main entrance and help with bags.
- Wheelchair-accessible vehicle on request – say so when booking so we send the right car. Details on the accessible taxi page.
- Invoicing for care homes and clinics in Welling that arrange patient transport for residents.
- Waiting fares for a short appointment – ask for a wait-and-return quote rather than two separate trips.
- Visiting hours – evening pickups after 8pm to Welling, East Wickham and Falconwood from any of the three sites.
None of this is NHS patient transport, which has its own eligibility rules; we are the option for people who are not eligible or who would rather not wait for it.
Why a Welling booking with a Dartford firm beats a random app car
Welling sits within the ULEZ, touches Greenwich and is well served by buses, so during the day there are plenty of app drivers about. Where it falls apart is at the margins: a 4am airport departure, a wet Friday night when the whole of Bexleyheath wants a car, or a hospital discharge where the driver genuinely has to hang on for you. Pre-booked private hire at a fixed price deals with all three.
- One price, agreed up front. Set when you book and not affected by a jam on the A2 or a queue for Blackwall.
- A named driver. Not whoever happens to be closest, but someone assigned to your job whose details reach you in advance.
- Licensed, DBS-checked and insured for hire and reward.
- Pay in cash, by card at no extra cost, or on a business account.
- Pick your vehicle. Saloon, estate, six-seat MPV, eight-seat minibus, or executive Mercedes E-Class and V-Class.
- Child seats at no charge – just give us the ages.
- Free waiting. Fifteen minutes at your door and 45 at an airport.
Our base is in Dartford, a quarter of an hour east on the A2, which puts Welling firmly inside our territory rather than on the fringe of someone else's. Whoever takes your call knows Welling Way from Wickham Lane.
East Wickham, Falconwood, Blackfen and the Greenwich border
Fixed Welling fares apply across DA16 and the streets around it: East Wickham and Upper Wickham Lane, Falconwood and the Rochester Way estate, Blackfen, Westwood Lane, the Danson Park side down to Danson Road, and the Shooters Hill and Plumstead Common edges of Greenwich borough. Bexleyheath, Sidcup and Eltham are all under fifteen minutes.
Further afield
Central London from £45 (A2, then either the Blackwall Tunnel and A13 or straight in through New Cross depending on the destination). Bromley from £22. Bluewater from £22. Cruise terminals: Tilbury from £32, Dover from £90, Southampton from £150. Stations: Ebbsfleet International for HS1 from £24, St Pancras and King's Cross from £48, Gatwick and Heathrow rail alternatives if you prefer to drive part way.

Welling taxi – common questions
How much is a taxi from Welling to Gatwick?
A saloon is from £68 one way, and that covers the £7 terminal drop-off. You go from the Danson interchange onto the A2, join the M25 at Junction 2, run clockwise to Junction 7 and drop onto the M23. Roughly 45 minutes if you leave before 6am, and up to 65 during the day. Reserve the evening before and we text you the driver's details.
Can I book a 4am taxi from Welling?
Yes. We work 24 hours a day and early airport pickups are the bulk of our overnight work. Book the evening before, tell us the flight number, and a named driver is assigned. If you are running late getting out of the house, the first 15 minutes' waiting is free.
What is the fare from Welling to London City Airport?
From £32 and 20 to 35 minutes: A2 to the A102, through the Blackwall Tunnel and along the A13 to Silvertown. There is no drop-off charge at City. On the way back we track your flight and wait 45 minutes free after landing.
Do you pick up from Welling station late at night?
Yes – book before you leave London, tell us the train, and the driver waits on Station Approach. We track Southeastern services from Charing Cross, Cannon Street and Victoria, so a delay does not cost you. Falconwood station is covered the same way.
How much is Welling to Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup?
From £12, and around ten to fifteen minutes by Blackfen Road or the A2 and A222. We cover outpatient appointments, visiting trips and collections on discharge; a wheelchair-accessible vehicle can be arranged provided you mention it when you book. For a quick clinic visit we can price a wait-and-return as a single fare.
How long does Welling to Heathrow take?
55 to 85 minutes, fare from £85 with the £6 drop-off included. Overnight the A2, Blackwall Tunnel, A12 and M4 is quickest; in the day the M25 anticlockwise from Junction 2 to Junction 15 avoids central London. The price is fixed whichever way the driver goes.
What vehicles are available in Welling?
A saloon takes four passengers and two big cases; an estate carries more luggage; then there is the six-seat MPV, the eight-seat minibus and an executive Mercedes E-Class or V-Class. Reckon on roughly 25% above the saloon price for an MPV and roughly 50% for a minibus. Ask and child seats are supplied free.
Can I pay by card, and is there a fee?
Both. Pay the driver in cash or by card at no extra charge. Care homes and companies in Welling are welcome to set up an account and settle by invoice each month. Because the fare is fixed at the time of booking, what goes on the card matches the quote exactly.
Is Welling to Bluewater worth doing by taxi?
From £22, taking 20 to 30 minutes down the A2 to the Bean interchange, which beats two buses and saves you hunting for a parking space. Tell us which entrance you want and we drop you there, and we can collect you again after a late shop or a film.
