Wilmington Taxi – Schools, Station and Airport Runs from DA2

Wilmington has three secondary schools, a grammar school on its doorstep, a heath, a golf course and a motorway junction, but no railway station and no late bus. So much of what Taxi On The Go does here is the ten-minute hop to Dartford station for £8; the rest is the A2 and M25 at Junction 2, which put Gatwick 45 minutes away for £72. Pre-booked, fixed fare, any hour.

TERM-TIME RUNS

Wilmington Academy, the grammar schools and regular school transport

Wilmington is unusual in having so many schools in one small area: Wilmington Academy and Wilmington Grammar School for Boys on Common Lane, Wilmington Grammar School for Girls on Wilmington Court Road, Dartford Grammar and Dartford Grammar School for Girls a mile away in the town, and the primary schools in between. Pupils travel from across the borough and beyond, and parents who cannot do two school runs a day ask us to cover one of them.

We run regular term-time bookings: the same driver where possible, a fixed pickup time, and the fare agreed for the whole term and invoiced monthly. All our drivers are DBS-checked, the cars are licensed and insured for private hire, and a child seat is fitted free for younger children. We also carry pupils to and from Dartford, Bexleyheath, Sidcup and Gravesend stations when the school train does not fit the timetable.

  • Open evenings and parents' evenings: pickups timed for the end of the session on Common Lane, where parking is tight.
  • Sports fixtures and trips: 6- and 8-seaters for a team or a small group, with one fixed price for the vehicle.

Schools and colleges can set up an account through the corporate travel page.

THE £8 HOP

Wilmington to Dartford station and the Ebbsfleet option

Wilmington itself has no railway station, but Dartford's is only six to ten minutes away via Hawley Road or along Oakfield Lane and Princes Road, and the fare starts at £8. From Dartford, Southeastern services reach Charing Cross, Cannon Street and Victoria in roughly 40 minutes, with trains the other way to Gravesend and the Medway towns.

We set morning pickups to allow for the Princes Road roundabout, which starts backing up from 7.30. For the journey home, let us know which train you are on: the driver follows it, waits outside the main entrance on Home Gardens and texts you the registration. Late-night trains are booked in advance so there is definitely a car waiting rather than a gamble on the rank.

  • Commuter accounts: a regular booking at set times, invoiced monthly.
  • Ebbsfleet International, from £15: a 12 to 18 minute run along the A2 for the 17-minute HS1 service to St Pancras – faster than the Dartford line if you are heading for King's Cross, Stratford or Canary Wharf. The driver drops on the forecourt and tracks your train back.
  • Swanley station, from £16: reached via Hextable and the B258, for Thameslink and the Victoria line through Bromley South.

Pickup points and meeting arrangements are covered on the Dartford station taxi page and the Ebbsfleet page.

AROUND THE VILLAGE

Dartford Heath, Oakfield Lane and the streets we cover

Wilmington sits between Dartford Heath to the north-west, the A2 to the north-east and the fields towards Hextable to the south. It is bigger than the village name suggests, with older streets around the parish church and the Orange Tree, post-war estates off Oakfield Lane and Hawley Road, and newer developments on the Dartford side.

There is no rank anywhere in the village, so every car is pre-booked and every fare is fixed before it arrives.

Dartford Heath

Pickups from the Heath Lane and Old Bexley Lane car parks after walks and cross-country events, and from the Heath end of Shepherds Lane.

Rowhill Grange & Birchwood Park golf

Hotel and spa guests to Bluewater, Dartford, Ebbsfleet and airports; golfers back to Bexley and Swanley. Executive Mercedes on request for wedding parties at the Grange.

Oakfield Lane & Hawley Road

Doorstep collection from the estates and the Oakfield Park sports ground, with 15 minutes' free waiting and a quiet arrival at night.

Cars run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, at the same fixed prices. Neighbouring Hextable and Joydens Wood are ten minutes away and have their own pages.

JUNCTION 2

Gatwick, Heathrow and Stansted from the Wilmington side of the A2

Of all the parts of Dartford, Wilmington is the closest to the A2/M25 interchange at Junction 2, which is why the prices come in slightly under the town-centre rate: Gatwick from £72 and City Airport from £45.

AirportFromRouteTime
Gatwick£72A2 or Hawley Road to M25 J2, anticlockwise to J7, M2345–65 min
Heathrow£93M25 J2 clockwise to J15, or A2/A102/M4 at night60–90 min
Stansted£82M25 J2 to J1a, Dartford tunnel, M25 to J27, M1155–80 min
London City£45A2, A102 Blackwall Tunnel, A1330–50 min

On timing: a 6am Gatwick flight from Wilmington means the car arrives at 3.45am, with an empty M25 ahead of you. A 10am long-haul from Heathrow means setting off around 7am, right when the M25 clockwise is heaviest, so the driver may prefer the A2 and M4 through town.

Each price already contains the airport's drop-off fee (Gatwick £7, Heathrow £6, Stansted £7, Luton £5, none at City), ULEZ if the route crosses it, and the Dart Charge. For the return, the driver monitors your flight, you get 45 minutes of free waiting once you land, and a name-board meet in arrivals can be added on request. Terminal information is on the airport transfers page and the Dartford to Gatwick route page.

Wilmington taxi — questions

How much is a taxi from Wilmington to Dartford station?

A saloon starts at £8 and the drive takes six to ten minutes, either along Hawley Road or via Oakfield Lane and Princes Road. You are dropped outside the main entrance on Home Gardens. Coming back in the evening, tell us your train and the driver follows it; if you commute daily we can arrange a regular booking billed monthly on invoice.

Do you do school runs to Wilmington Academy and the grammar schools?

Yes, term-time regular bookings with a fixed time, the same driver where possible, DBS-checked drivers and monthly invoicing. We cover Wilmington Academy, both Wilmington Grammar schools and the Dartford Grammar schools, and station links to Dartford, Bexleyheath and Sidcup for pupils travelling further.

What is the fare from Wilmington to Gatwick?

A saloon costs from £72 one way, and that already accounts for Gatwick's £7 drop-off fee. From the village it is two miles to the M25 at Junction 2, then anticlockwise to Junction 7 and down the M23. Give it 45 to 65 minutes, less in the early morning.

How far is Darent Valley Hospital from Wilmington by taxi?

Six to ten minutes across the A2 at Bean, from £8. Tell us whether you need the main entrance or A&E. Discharge pickups are best booked once the ward confirms you are ready; 15 minutes' waiting is then free. Wheelchair-accessible vehicles can be arranged with notice.

Can you collect from Rowhill Grange or Birchwood Park?

Yes, both are regular pickups. Hotel and spa guests go to Bluewater, Ebbsfleet, Dartford and the airports at the fares on this page, and executive Mercedes E-Class or V-Class cars are available for wedding parties at the Grange. Ask reception to call us or book direct.

Is Wilmington to Heathrow quicker by M25 or through London?

In daytime the M25 clockwise from Junction 2 to Junction 15 is usually best, 60 to 90 minutes. Before 5am or late at night the A2, Blackwall Tunnel and M4 can be faster. The fare is from £93 either way, with the £6 terminal charge and ULEZ included.

How much is a taxi from Wilmington to Bluewater?

From £12, 10 to 15 minutes along the A2 to the Bluewater junction. Tell us which entrance or car park you want and the driver drops at the doors. Book the return at the same time if you are going to the cinema, so the car is there when you come out.

What vehicles are available in Wilmington?

The saloon takes four people with two large suitcases; estates carry more bags; and we also run 6-seat MPVs, 8-seat minibuses and executive Mercedes in E-Class and V-Class form. An MPV works out about a quarter dearer than the saloon and an 8-seater about half again. Child seats cost nothing if you ask for them.
