Swanley to Gatwick: the fare from each village

Guide fares for a saloon, one way, four passengers and two large cases, £7 Gatwick drop-off charge included. Swanley itself is the cheapest pickup on this page because of the M25 junction on its doorstep; the Darent valley villages and Sevenoaks add a little for the extra miles to reach the motorway.

FOUR JUNCTIONS

Swanley to Gatwick along the M25 and M23

From the centre of Swanley the driver takes the B2173 or the A20 to the Swanley interchange and joins the M25 at Junction 3 heading anti-clockwise. That is the only local road on the whole journey. The motorway runs south past Badgers Mount, through Junction 4 for Orpington, Junction 5 for Sevenoaks and the M26, then Junction 6 at Godstone and off at Junction 7 onto the M23. Gatwick is the second junction on the M23, Junction 9, and the terminals are signed from the roundabout.

Timings on a clear road:

  • Swanley to the M25 at Junction 3: 3–5 minutes
  • Junction 3 to Junction 7: 22–28 minutes
  • M23 to the terminal forecourt: 8–10 minutes

Which is how a Swanley pickup at 4am reaches Gatwick in 35 minutes. The slow patches, when they happen, are the Clacket Lane stretch between Junction 5 and Junction 6 on Friday afternoons and the M23 approach to Junction 8 when the Reigate traffic joins in the morning peak. Nothing on the route carries a toll and none of it is in the ULEZ.

SHORT DRIVE, SAME CHECK-IN

When to book your Swanley pickup for a Gatwick flight

The road is short, but Gatwick's check-in and security rules are the same as for anyone else: two hours before short-haul, three before long-haul. Our suggested pickup times from Swanley town centre allow for that plus a buffer for the M25.

Flight timePickup in SwanleyNotes
05:00–07:302h 30m beforeEmpty roads; buffer is for the terminal
07:30–09:302h 50m beforeMorning peak on the M25 and M23 J8
09:30–15:302h 40m beforeSteady traffic
15:30–19:002h 55m beforeFriday afternoon is the worst slot
After 19:002h 30m before35–40 minute run

Add 15 minutes if you are checking in a pushchair, golf clubs or skis, and 20 minutes for a long-haul flight. Hextable, Crockenhill and St Mary Cray pickups add five minutes to reach the junction; Eynsford, Farningham and West Kingsdown add ten.

WHY NOT THE TRAIN

A car beats the rail route from Swanley to Gatwick

Swanley station is well connected, but not to Gatwick. Thameslink runs from Swanley through Bromley South to Blackfriars and St Pancras, and to reach Gatwick you would change at Blackfriars or London Bridge for a southbound Thameslink service. That is an hour and forty minutes at best, with luggage carried up and down at the change, and there is nothing running for a 6am departure. A car from Swanley is 35–60 minutes and picks you up at home.

Fixed, not metered

£62 is the price before you leave. If the M25 crawls at Clacket Lane you pay £62. If the driver flies through in 35 minutes you pay £62.

Cheaper than parking

Four days in a Gatwick long-stay car park costs about the same as our return fare, and you skip the transfer bus at both ends.

Somebody is expecting you

You have the driver's name and car the night before. On the way back they have your flight number and are tracking it.

We are a Dartford-based private hire firm, not a ride-hail app, so the vehicle is allocated in advance rather than found on the night. Licensed, insured and DBS-checked drivers, and company invoicing for the many Swanley residents who fly for work; see corporate travel for monthly accounts.

HOME TO BR8

Gatwick arrivals and the drive back to Swanley

Give us the flight number for your return and we track it from departure. Land at 11:40pm rather than 10:50pm and the driver just turns up later; the delay costs you nothing and your 45 minutes of free waiting only begins once the aircraft is on the ground.

Normally the driver collects you from the Short Stay car park at your terminal – Level 3 at North Terminal, Level 3 at South Terminal, each a lift ride from the arrivals concourse. While you wait for your luggage the driver texts you the bay and the registration. Prefer to be met with a name board at the arrivals barrier? Meet and greet can be added on request, with a guide charge of £10.

Going home is the mirror image: M23 northbound, M25 clockwise, and off at Junction 3 for Swanley. Late in the evening that is about 35 minutes. If a group is going separate ways the driver can continue to Hextable, Crockenhill or Eynsford for a second drop – mention it when you book and we will quote for the extra stop instead of charging waiting time.

BR8 AND BEYOND

Villages we collect from for the Gatwick run

Swanley is the hub, but the same fixed-fare service covers the villages that share its postcode and the Darent valley to the east. Postcode sets the price; these are the pickups we see most on Gatwick jobs.

  • Swanley town centre and Swanley station — including the estates off London Road, St Mary's Road and the Swanley Park side of town.
  • Hextable — a mile north, still BR8, from £64.
  • Crockenhill — south of the town on the road to Well Hill, from £64.
  • St Mary Cray — across the Bromley border, joining the M25 at Junction 3 or via the A224 to Junction 4.
  • Farningham and Eynsford — the Darent valley villages, reaching the motorway via the A20 or the A225.
  • West Kingsdown — on the A20 towards Brands Hatch, from £68.
  • Sevenoaks — from £70, joining the M25 directly at Junction 5.

Local runs from Swanley to Bromley, Dartford, Bluewater and Sevenoaks are priced on the Swanley taxi page, and Hextable has its own Hextable taxi page with fares to all five airports.

Good to know

Swanley to Gatwick taxi — common questions

How much is a taxi from Swanley to Gatwick?

A standard saloon is from £62 one way, and that already covers the £7 drop-off charge. Hextable, Crockenhill and St Mary Cray are from £64; Farningham is from £66; Eynsford and West Kingsdown are from £68; Sevenoaks is from £70. Out of Swanley a 6-seat MPV starts at £78 and an 8-seater at £93.

How long does it take from Swanley to Gatwick by car?

35 to 60 minutes. It is only 28 miles, and the M25 is three minutes from the town centre at Junction 3. Off-peak and overnight the run is under 40 minutes; the morning and Friday afternoon peaks between Junction 5 and Junction 7 push it towards an hour.

Is Swanley to Gatwick faster than from Dartford?

Yes, by 10 to 15 minutes, because you skip the A2 and join the M25 a junction further south. That is also why the Swanley fare is £62 against £75 from Dartford. Sevenoaks is faster still as it joins at Junction 5.

Can you pick me up from Swanley station?

Yes. The pickup point is outside the station entrance on Station Approach. Tell us which Thameslink or Southeastern train you are on and the driver will be waiting when it arrives. The Gatwick fare from the station is the same £62 as the town centre.

Which terminal will I be dropped at?

Whichever one your airline flies from. North and South Terminals both sit on the roundabout at Junction 9 of the M23, so the price is the same for either. Look at your booking confirmation – easyJet and British Airways operate out of both – and let the driver know.

Do you run to Gatwick from Swanley at night?

Every night. A 6am flight means a 3:30am pickup in Swanley and the run takes 35 minutes on empty roads. Book the day before, and the driver will text when they pull up rather than ringing the doorbell.

Where does the driver wait when I land at Gatwick?

On Level 3 of your terminal's Short Stay car park. While you are collecting your bags the driver texts you the bay number and the car's registration. If you would prefer a name board at the arrivals barrier, meet and greet can be arranged on request.

What if my flight home is late?

The driver is tracking it and adjusts the pickup. Your 45 minutes of free waiting only begins once the aircraft has landed, so a delay in the air costs you nothing. If you are held at passport control beyond that, message the driver and keep going.
