Your pickup at Gatwick North or South
Because the majority of jobs on this route are the trip home, that is where we will begin.
Following your flight. Once we have the flight number we keep an eye on it. Should your inbound run two hours late, the driver hears about it and is not left in the car park with the meter ticking. From the moment the aircraft lands you get 45 minutes of free waiting, which on a normal day easily covers immigration and the baggage reclaim at either terminal.
Finding the driver. Two options:
- Name board in the arrivals hall — available on request for roughly £10 more. The driver waits at the arrivals exit holding your name and walks you over to short-stay parking. Good for families, or if you would rather not be ringing around.
- Message when you are through — once your bags are on the trolley you text 020 8888 9988 and the driver comes round to the forecourt or the short-stay pickup point. Nothing extra to pay.

M25 junction 2 to junction 7: the Bluewater to Gatwick run
From Bluewater the driver joins the A2 westbound, leaves at the M25 junction 2 roundabout and heads clockwise. Five junctions later, at J7, the M23 peels off south; Gatwick is exit 9, with the spur road splitting for North or South Terminal.
The section that matters is the M25 between Swanley (J3) and the M23 split (J7). It is the busiest stretch of motorway in the south-east at 7–9am and 4–7pm on weekdays. Outside those windows the whole run is about 45–50 minutes; inside them, 65–70 is realistic.
Why there is no sensible alternative road
Unlike the Heathrow run, there is no cross-London option worth taking. The A21 through Bromley and the A22 via Caterham are slower in almost every scenario. If the M25 is closed between J5 and J7, which happens a few times a year, the driver will divert via the A25 through Westerham and Oxted and let you know the revised timing. The fare does not change when the route does.

How much time to allow from DA9 for a Gatwick flight
Gatwick is the closer big airport from Bluewater, and it is easy to be too relaxed about it. Our rule of thumb from Greenhithe or Stone:
- Before 7am departure — leave 2 hours 15 minutes before the flight. The M25 is quiet and you will do it in 45 minutes, leaving time for security queues that build early at both terminals.
- 7am–10am departure — leave 2 hours 45 minutes before. You are driving into the morning peak on the M25 and the queue at J5 for Sevenoaks can cost 20 minutes alone.
- Midday to mid-afternoon — 2 hours 30 minutes is usually enough.
- Evening flights on a Friday — 3 hours. The M25 clockwise from J3 to J7 on a Friday evening is the worst case on this route.

Getting from Greenhithe to Gatwick without a car
By rail, Greenhithe to Gatwick means Southeastern to London Bridge, a change onto a Thameslink or Southern service south, and about 1 hour 45 minutes with luggage, assuming everything connects. For three or four people it costs more than the car and takes twice as long.
Train and change
1h45 door to door at best, no service before 5.30am from Greenhithe, and a first change at London Bridge with cases in the rush hour.
