CANTERBURY TAXI · CT1 / CT2 · DOVER FROM £30 · 24/7

Canterbury Taxi

Twice a year the University of Kent's hill and the Christ Church campus turn over tens of thousands of students at once, with a duvet, a monitor and three suitcases each, and Canterbury West's forecourt is not built for it. That is one of the jobs Taxi On The Go handles in Canterbury CT1 and CT2 – along with airports, Dover, London and the hospital – as pre-booked private hire at a price fixed in advance. We are based in Dartford, 45 miles up the A2, so Canterbury sits at the eastern edge of the Kent area we work, which suits longer, planned journeys best. Guide fares: price list.

TERM START, TERM END, GRADUATION

University of Kent and Christ Church: moving in, moving out, going home

The University of Kent campus is on the hill above the city off Giles Lane, with the colleges – Keynes, Rutherford, Eliot, Darwin, Turing, Park Wood – spread across it; Canterbury Christ Church is on North Holmes Road by the Cathedral. Both fill and empty in September, December, March and June, and the vehicles that work are estates and MPVs, not saloons. A student with a term's worth of belongings pays from £6 between campus and Canterbury West, from £70 to Ebbsfleet International, from £75 to Dartford and from £105 to Central London, with the ULEZ inside.

  • Airport arrivals – international students landing at Heathrow are collected with a name board and driven straight to their accommodation; Heathrow to Canterbury is from £150, Gatwick from £115.
  • Graduation – the Cathedral ceremonies bring families needing a car from Canterbury West or a hotel to the Precincts entrance and back; wait-and-return quoted as one price.
  • Group trips – the 8-seater for a night in Margate, Whitstable or Ashford, one fixed fare split eight ways.
  • Parents collecting or delivering can book an MPV from Dartford or Gravesend to campus at the same fixed rate as the reverse.

The college or halls name is enough for the driver.

CANTERBURY WEST, CANTERBURY EAST, THE WESTGATE

Two stations, the Cathedral and the hospital

Canterbury West on Station Road West is the HS1 station – St Pancras in under an hour on the high-speed service – and Canterbury East on Station Road East is the Victoria line via Faversham. The driver waits on the forecourt of whichever you name and we track the train. From either station, the Cathedral Precincts (drop at the Christ Church Gate end of Burgate or the Broad Street side), the Marlowe Theatre on The Friars and hotels inside the walls are from £5; most of the centre is pedestrianised, so tell us the hotel and the driver knows the nearest stopping point.

Kent and Canterbury Hospital on Ethelbert Road is the main hospital, and from the city or campus the fare is from £6. Name the entrance – main or outpatients – and ask for a wait-and-return or a wheelchair-accessible vehicle if you need one. Transfers to William Harvey in Ashford (from £30) or the QEQM in Margate (from £35) are fixed-price.

Around the district

  • Harbledown, Rough Common and Blean – from £6.
  • Sturry, Fordwich and Hersden – from £8.
  • Bridge, Bekesbourne and Chartham – from £9.
  • Whitstable and Herne Bay via the A290 or A291 – from £18.
  • Sandwich and Deal – from £28.
A2 WEST, A2 EAST

Canterbury to the London airports, Dover and the Channel

Canterbury is a long way from the London airports and the fares reflect it, but for a family or group a single fixed price still compares well with rail plus airport train plus the last mile. The A2 and M2 go west to the M25; the A2 the other way is Dover in half an hour.

Gatwick from £115

A2, M2, M20 and M26 to the M25, clockwise to Junction 7, M23 – or the A2 and M25 via Junction 2. 85–115 minutes; £7 fee included.

Heathrow from £150

M2, A2, M25 round to Junction 15, or through London on the M4 overnight. 105–150 minutes; £6 fee included.

Stansted from £130

M2, A2, Dartford Crossing, M25 to Junction 27, M11. Dart Charge and £7 drop-off inside the price.

London City from £95

A2 all the way to the Blackwall Tunnel, then the A13. 75–100 minutes; no drop-off fee.

Dover is from £30 to either the Western Docks cruise terminals or the Eastern Docks ferry port – say which, they are on opposite sides of the harbour. The Eurotunnel terminal at Folkestone is from £32. On airport returns the flight is tracked, 45 minutes' waiting is free, and we can put a driver in arrivals holding a name board; see Dover cruise transfers.

DARTFORD OFFICE, EAST KENT REACH

Being clear about distance: a Dartford firm working Canterbury

Our office is 45 miles from Canterbury, in Dartford DA1. We are not a Canterbury rank company and will not claim a car is idling on St Dunstan's Street. Where we make sense is on planned, longer journeys – airports, London, Dartford and Ebbsfleet, cruise and ferry ports, term-time moves and hospital transfers booked ahead – where the vehicle is assigned to you in advance and the price is fixed before you get in. For a five-minute hop across the city on a Saturday night, book early or use a local rank. Everything we do carry is done on the same terms as in Dartford:

  • One quote, agreed before dispatch, unaffected by A2 roadworks or a queue at the Crossing.
  • Driver's name and registration texted to you.
  • Licensed private hire drivers, enhanced DBS certificates, hire-and-reward cover.
  • Vehicles from saloon and estate to 6-seat MPV, 8-seat minibus and Mercedes executive.
  • Cash, card without surcharge, or monthly invoice for universities, colleges and businesses.
  • Child seats free on request.

Canterbury taxi FAQs

How much is a taxi from Canterbury to Heathrow?

From £150 for a saloon including the £6 terminal charge, 105 to 150 minutes via the M2, A2 and M25 – or through London on the M4 at night. For students arriving from abroad we meet at arrivals with a name board and drive straight to the halls.

What does Canterbury to Gatwick cost?

From £115 with the £7 drop-off fee included, 85 to 115 minutes. The driver picks between the M20/M26 route and the A2/M25 route depending on traffic. An MPV for a family is around £144.

Can you move a student between campus and Canterbury West?

Yes, from £6 in an estate or MPV that takes the boxes. Longer moves – Ebbsfleet from £70, Dartford from £75, Central London from £105 – are fixed-price, and card payment in the car is fine.

How much is Canterbury to Dover?

From £30, 25 to 35 minutes down the A2. Tell us whether you need the Western Docks cruise terminals or the Eastern Docks ferry port, as they are on opposite sides of the harbour. Folkestone's Eurotunnel terminal is from £32.

Do you pick up from Canterbury East as well as West?

Both. Canterbury West on Station Road West for HS1 to St Pancras, Canterbury East on Station Road East for Victoria services. The driver waits on the forecourt you name and the train is tracked.

Is there a fixed fare to Kent and Canterbury Hospital?

From £6 from the city or campus to Ethelbert Road. Specify the entrance, and ask for wait-and-return on short appointments or a wheelchair-accessible vehicle if needed. William Harvey in Ashford is from £30.

How much is Canterbury to Whitstable or Margate?

Whitstable is from £18 via the A290, 18 to 25 minutes; Margate from £35 on the A28 or Thanet Way, 30 to 40 minutes. Groups can book the 8-seater for a night out and split one fixed fare.

Why book a Dartford firm for Canterbury?

For longer pre-booked journeys – airports, London, Dartford, Ebbsfleet, cruise ports – our fixed prices are competitive and the car is allocated in advance. For a short unplanned hop across town a local rank may be quicker.
