Gatwick Airport to Southampton Cruise Terminal Taxi
Five cruise terminals, two dock gates and an airport with two terminals of its own: the Gatwick to Southampton transfer goes wrong when nobody has checked which building the ship is at. Taxi On The Go asks that when you book, tracks your flight into North or South Terminal, and drives you to the right kerb at a fixed fare from £120. Book online or WhatsApp the details to 020 8888 9988.
Gatwick Airport to the Southampton cruise terminals by taxi is from £120 one way in a saloon, from either Gatwick terminal to Ocean, City, Mayflower, QEII or Horizon Terminal. The drive is about 75 miles via the M23, M25, M3 and M27, taking 90–120 minutes. Flight tracked, 45 minutes' free waiting, meet and greet on request.

From the Gatwick forecourt to the Southampton dock gates
Gatwick is on the M23, and the driver joins it northbound from the terminal roundabout at Junction 9, runs two junctions up to the M25 at Junction 7 and turns anticlockwise. The M25 carries you west past Reigate and Leatherhead to Junction 12, where the M3 peels off south-west towards Basingstoke and Winchester. At the bottom of the M3 the road becomes the M27 for a couple of junctions, and the driver leaves at Junction 3 for the M271 into Southampton's Western Docks, or stays on into the city for the Eastern Docks depending on your terminal.
All but the last few of the 75 miles are motorway. The M25 between Junctions 8 and 10 is the morning pinch and the M3 near Winchester slows on summer Fridays; otherwise it is a steady hour and a half with no toll or ULEZ.
Which terminal, which gate
- Ocean Terminal — Eastern Docks, via Dock Gate 4.
- QEII Terminal — Eastern Docks, also Dock Gate 4.
- Mayflower Terminal — Western Docks, Dock Gate 10.
- City Terminal — Western Docks, Dock Gate 8.
- Horizon Terminal — Western Docks, Dock Gate 10.
Working out whether your Gatwick flight leaves enough time
Southampton's cruise lines run staggered boarding by group and shut check-in around an hour before sailing, with most ships leaving between 16:00 and 17:00. From Gatwick you need to add passport control, reclaim, the 45 minutes we allow at arrivals and 90–120 minutes on the road.
| Sailing | Flight landing at Gatwick | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| 16:30 | By 10:30 | Comfortable |
| 16:30 | 11:30–12:30 | Workable on a weekday; risky on a Friday |
| 16:30 | After 13:00 | We would advise a hotel and sail-day pickup |
We see the aircraft's real arrival, the driver moves with it, and free waiting starts when it lands. If a delay threatens the sailing we say so as early as we know and look at options rather than drive you to a closed terminal.
After the cruise, tell us your disembarkation group and your Gatwick departure and we book a pickup with proper margin for the M25 and Gatwick's security queue.
Meeting you at Gatwick North or South Terminal
The flight number tells us which terminal you land at and the driver goes there. Both terminals put the short stay car park a lift ride above arrivals, and the driver waits on Level 3 of the relevant car park and texts you the bay and registration while your bags are coming through.
For cruise passengers we strongly suggest meet and greet: the driver stands in the arrivals hall with your name on a board and takes charge of the trolley from there. It costs a guide £10 and removes the one moment in the transfer where things go astray, particularly for arrivals from North America or anyone with mobility issues.
Cruise passengers travel heavy. A couple with two big cases and a garment bag fit a saloon; four adults with a case apiece want the estate or the 6-seat MPV. Tell us the case count and we put the right vehicle on the job rather than discover the problem at the kerb.
Why a pre-booked car beats the rail option from Gatwick
By rail, Gatwick to Southampton means a train to Clapham Junction, a change onto South Western, then a taxi from Southampton Central to the docks. It works for one person with a rucksack; for a family with cruise luggage it is three vehicles and two staircases.
The fare is fixed before you fly
£120 is confirmed by email. Queues on the M25 do not change it.
We know which terminal is which
Ocean, City, Mayflower, QEII or Horizon: the driver goes to the named building, not just "the docks".
Flight and ship both tracked
The pickup is built around your landing and your boarding window.
Groups stay together
A minibus from £180 carries eight and their cases as one booking.

Gatwick to Southampton cruise taxi — questions
How much is a taxi from Gatwick to Southampton cruise terminal?
From £120 one way for a saloon from either Gatwick terminal to any of the five Southampton cruise terminals. A 6-seat MPV is from £150 and an 8-seat minibus from £180. Southampton back to Gatwick is also from £120, £7 drop-off charge included.
How long is the drive from Gatwick to Southampton docks?
90 to 120 minutes for about 75 miles: M23 to the M25, anticlockwise to Junction 12, M3 to the M27, then the M271 or the city roads to the docks. The M25 morning peak and summer Fridays on the M3 are the slow spots.
Do you know which terminal my ship uses?
Your cruise documents name it and we match it to the dock gate: Ocean and QEII are in the Eastern Docks via Dock Gate 4; City is at Dock Gate 8; Mayflower and Horizon are at Dock Gate 10 in the Western Docks.
What time should my flight land at Gatwick for a 16:30 sailing?
By 10:30 for a comfortable transfer. Landing between 11:30 and 12:30 works on a quiet weekday but is risky on a Friday. Later than 13:00 and a Southampton hotel the evening before is the safer plan.
Where will the driver be at Gatwick North Terminal?
On Level 3 of the North Terminal short stay car park, a lift ride from arrivals; you get the bay and registration by text at reclaim. Or book meet and greet and the driver holds a name board at the arrivals barrier.
What happens if my flight into Gatwick is late?
The driver is tracking it and adjusts; free waiting of 45 minutes starts when the aircraft lands. If the delay threatens your check-in cut-off we tell you as soon as we see it.
Do you do the return from Southampton docks to Gatwick after the cruise?
Yes, from £120. Send your disembarkation group and flight; the driver is at the terminal exit and the Gatwick drop-off charge is inside the fare.
Is there enough room for four people and four cruise cases?
Not in a saloon, which takes two large cases. Book the 6-seat MPV from £150, which carries four adults and their cruise luggage with space to spare.
