Dartford to Oxford by road
Oxford lies north-west of London, so the driver goes anticlockwise: M25 from Junction 2 past Sevenoaks, the Clacket Lane services, Reigate, Leatherhead and the Heathrow junctions to Junction 16, then the M40 north-west through the Chilterns. The M40 cutting at Stokenchurch drops you onto the Oxfordshire plain, and at Junction 8 the A40 takes over for the last ten miles past Wheatley and the Headington roundabout.
Where we come off depends on your destination:
- John Radcliffe Hospital and Headington: A40 to the Headington roundabout, then Headley Way.
- City centre colleges, the station and Christ Church: A40 to the Marston interchange and in via St Clement's, or round the ring road to Botley Road.
- Oxford Parkway, Kidlington and Summertown: stay on the A40 to the Cutteslowe roundabout.
- Bicester Village and Blenheim: leave the M40 at Junction 9 for Bicester, or take the A44 from the Peartree roundabout for Woodstock.
When the M25 is blocked near Heathrow, the fallback is the A40 out through west London; the driver picks whichever is faster and the fixed fare stays the same.
The train from Dartford to Oxford, and when the car makes more sense
By rail, Oxford is reached from Paddington or Marylebone, which are on the opposite side of London from Dartford.
